چکیده

In this paper, we are to develop a second-order LMS-type adaptive equalizer to reduce distortions of data transmission over analog telephone channels due the channel impulse response and inter-symbol interference (ISI). A novel approach for updating the linear and quadratic coefficients vectors of a second-order Volterra filter is presented. The innovative features of this algorithm provide distinct convergence treatment of the linear and quadratic Volterra filter kernels, hence providing a unique platform for both linear and nonlinear adaptive equalization. Simulations are carried in an equalization set-up to compare the performance of this algorithm with conventional and variable step LMS algorithms. The obtained results show that this algorithm brings substantial increase in the convergence speed while keeping, to some extent, the simplicity of the conventional LMS algorithm. Considering the performance of the formulated algorithm, it could be a useful tool for adaptive equalization applications. Key-Words: Adaptive Filtering, Equalization, HOS-based LMS, Nonlinear Volterra filter.

Design of Adaptive Equalizer Based on Variable Step LMS Algorithm

Adaptive equalizer is important in transmission of wireless communication. The equalizer using least mean square (LMS) algorithm is adopted. Simulation results show that step size influences the algorithm convergence and stability, which will significantly affect the performance of adaptive equalizer. The requirement of step for convergence speed, time-varying tracking accuracy and convergence ...

Adaptive channel equalizer with new VSS LMS algorithm

This paper introduces a new variable step-size LMS (NVSS LMS) algorithm in an adaptive channel equalizer. This variant of VSS LMS algorithm is based on the weighting coefficinets bias/varance trade-off. We will show here that the adaptive equalizer with the NVSS LMS algorithm has favorable performance. Simulation results are provided to support the proposed implementation of the NVSS LMS.

Improved Blind Equalization Scheme Using Variable Step Size Constant Modulus Algorithm

The blind equalizer relies on the knowledge of signal’s constellation and its statistics to perform equalization. The major drawback is that the blind equalizer will typically take a longer time to converge as compared to a trained equalizer. Variable Step-Size LMS (VSLMS) algorithms have been introduced to optimize the speed and steady-state error. The relationships between the a priori and a ...

Square contour algorithm for blind equalization of QAM signals

A new distance-adjusted approach is proposed in which static square contours are defined around an estimated symbol in a QAM constellation, which create regions that correspond to fixed step sizes and weighting factors. As a result, the equalizer tap adjustment consists of a linearly weighted sum of adaptation criteria that is scaled by a variable step size. This approach is the basis of two ne...
